I call the flat lands of Southwestern Ontario home, living and training out of London Ontario.
In 2012 I got my first taste of duathlon racing and have been hooked ever since. Two years later I found myself competing at the 2014 World Duathlon Championships in Pontevedra Spain where I finished 19th in my age group. This was the event that solidified just how much I enjoy this sport. Racing with athletes from around the globe inspired me to be a better athlete and work as harder. In that same year, I was also diagnosed with a rare genetic heart condition called Long QT Syndrome (LQTS). It was after the diagnosis that I feared that my dreams of continuing in the sport would have to come to an end. After consulting various specialists both in Canada and from around the globe it was decided that I could either stop or not, either way it was up to me. It was not a quick decision but I decided to dedicate myself to training 5-6 days a week and prove that whatever life throws at you it can be overcome with a positive attitude and outlook. 30lbs and three years later I am the healthiest I have ever been competing as one of the top Duathletes in the province and happily remain asymptomatic.
“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”
Duathlon racing has been my outlet for years now helping me manage the everyday stresses of work, personal life and being a new father. I train smarter and harder so I can spend as much time with my daughter and friends as possible, after all life is short.
We all face challenges in life and over the past few years I have had more than my share of them. The sudden loss of a parent, the birth of my daughter and the list keeps on going but with each hurdle I try to keep moving forward. That brings me to the summer of 2018 where I found myself competing once again internationally as an age group athlete in Denmark at the Fyn ITU Multisport World Championships Festival. Representing not only my country but F2C Nutrition as one of their athletes. After all they were official nutrition sponsor for the event. This time I was racing International Distance Duathlon and managed to be finish 10th in my age group, despite various challenges on that day.
This summer will be another exciting one as I head back to Spain where it all started back in 2014. I will be competing at the 2019 Pontevedra ITU World Triathlon Multisport Championships racing the Sprint Duathlon distance. Now a draft legal event unlike when I was there the first time it will take a different training regime, but the same amazing F2C Nutrition products as always!
Like most athletes I have tried countless nutrition products over the years until discovering F2C Nutrition. It can be a challenge to find a product or products that not only taste great but can live up to their claims. F2C’s entire product range is natural, causes no GI issues and is developed with athletes in mind and that’s why I believe and use their products daily.
Hydra-Durance is my go to for everything from walking around with the family to intense track workouts because of its easy to digest nature and subtle flavourings. For longer workouts which could be hours in the saddle or hours running I rely on F2C Glyco-Durance to ensure proper hydration and carb consumption. Recovery post workout is always F2C Rehab 3:1 (chocolate) which gives me the perfect balance of carb to protein to help rebuild and maintain my muscles. I also like to consume it on rest days just before bed to ensure a great night sleep.
